State of Scala io for 2.8 ?

Francois-2
Hello,

There was quite some discussion about Scala io in the past month, and
I'm not sure I followed everything... I know that some project (sbt
perhaps ?) released what they use (or was it for command line management
?), that there was a lot of discussion around "official" scala.io, and
perhaps in an incubator implementation...

Well, all that is quite confusing to me.

Could somebody with an overall view brush a sketch of the situation, so
that I could decide what to use to manage io with Scala 2.8 ?

Thanks in advance for the time,

The IO-related classes that had been added to the standard library were
moved to the compiler (scala.tools.nsc.io) so they're not available for
Scala code unless you include the scala-compiler.jar.

Jesse Eichar used the IO-related classes mentioned above as a starting
point and has been iterating over them to produce a full IO library. The
discussion about it happens in the scala incubator mailing list:

http://groups.google.com/group/scala-incubator

If everything goes according to plan and a suitable API and
implementation are produced, the library would then be migrated to the
standard library in a release subsequent to 2.8.0.

Hope it helps,
Ismael

My observation is that it is NonExistent, not NonExistant. Sorry for the pedantry

Can you clarify what you are referring to?

I think he’s talking about the NonExistant object here:

http://github.com/scala-incubator/scala-io/blob/master/src/main/scala/io/Path.scala

Thanks, Aaron. Christopher, you should send your comment to the scala
incubator mailing list.

Well, I was looking at the Google group and, frankly, being very puzzled by what I should do. I've attempted to now - apologies if I've messed it up

What scala incubator mailing list (it isn't mentioned here: http://www.scala-lang.org/node/199)?

Well, my attempt at mailing the google group must have failed - I can't see my contribution on there. Any instructions?

Hi Christopher,

The post did get through but we moderate first time posts to reduce the spam.  You post should be there.

FYI.  I made a mistake with moderation so your next post will be moderated as well (unless I can figure out how to fix the mistake).  I will get the next try correct.
